Welcome to Joel Hicks Photography!
I find photography to be uniquely rewarding and challenging, as capturing that perfect shot is un unquantifiable mix of art, science and technical ability. But my journey to becoming a photographer happened quite by chance, and began just over a decade ago when I was asked to step in front of the lens by a local photographer who wanted to capture a male subject.
This particular photographer had seen some images of me online that were taken during an ‘Always With A Smile‘ event (a non-profit foundation that I established back in 2006).
Although modelling wasn’t something I had ever considered, the images from the photoshoot were well received (more by luck than judgement…) and were used to produce a charity calendar in support of the foundation.
In addition, the images generated further interest from other photographers all across the UK and, as a result, within just a few months I had managed to build up a substantive portfolio working collaboratively with freelance photographers.
Around 6 months after my first ever photoshoot, I was fortunate enough to be signed to a commercial modelling agency… and very quickly, and quite unexpectedly, the creative industry became my new full-time vocation.
In the months and years that followed, I began to receive opportunities to act as well as model, and I also established Parklands Studio, a photographic studio and private 13 acre location in Leicestershire.
My photography developed from these creative interests and, after years of study, hard-work and dedication, photography now forms a major part of my creative portfolio, alongside my acting and modelling work, and the management of Parklands Studio.
When working behind the lens, at the heart of my photographic ethos is a drive to produce visually striking and creatively diverse imagery, regardless of the subject matter or concept.
